Del Tech volleyball finishes second at regional tournament

The Delaware Technical Community College women’s volleyball team finished in second place at the 2017 National Junior College Athletic Association Region 19 Tournament, held Oct. 28 at Lackawanna College in Scranton, Pa.

Delaware Tech entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed and the defending Region 19 champion. Delaware Tech beat host Lackawanna 3-0 in the semifinals by set scores of 25-20, 25-20 and 25-16. In the finals, Delaware Tech was swept by Harcum College 3-0 with set scores of 25-19, 25-20, and 25-11.

Second-year standout Mary Beth O’Hanlon of Clayton and first-year player Hayley Hudson of Newark paced Delaware Tech throughout the tournament. Both athletes were named to the All-Tournament and All-Region teams at the end of the tournament.

The Delaware Tech women’s volleyball team is composed entirely of athletes from Delaware, ranging from Newark to Dover to Lewes and all points in between.

Delaware Tech will compete in the NJCAA District Tournament Saturday, Nov. 4, at Harcum College in Bryn Mawr, Pa.
