Delaware Farm Bureau awards scholarships

The Delaware Farm Bureau has again awarded scholarship money to deserving high school seniors and students currently attending college. Each year the Delaware Farm Bureau Women’s Committee awards scholarships to students in agricultural and non-agricultural fields. The Sussex County winners are Zakary Keeler, Erryn Smith and Amanda Ritter.

Keeler received the Sussex County Farm Bureau Women’s $1,000 scholarship. He is from Frankford and is the son of Lance and Christina Keeler. Keeler is a 2016 graduate of Sussex Central High School where he was the leader of the Kick Butts Generation. He also participated in the National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Brother/Sister Knights, and SCTV among an extensive list of other extracurricular activities. He plans to attend Regent University where he will major in cinema-television. He hopes to find a career as a producer or director.

Smith received the Sussex County Farm Bureau $500 scholarship. She is from Bridgeville and is the daughter of Matthew Smith and Cristine Eskridge. She is a 2016 graduate of Lake Forest High School where she participated in the national FFA organization, National Honor Society and Lake Forest High School Honors Program among an extensive list of other extracurricular activities. She plans to attend the University of South Carolina at Beaufort where she will major in biology. Smith hopes to  find a career as a wildlife veterinarian.

Ritter received the Sussex County Farm Bureau $500 scholarship. She is from Nassau and is the daughter of Brad and Laura Ritter. She is a 2016 graduate of Cape Henlopen High School where she participated in FFA and the National Honor Society among an extensive list of other extracurricular activities. She plans to attend the University of Delaware where she will major in veterinary medicine and animal biosciences. RItter hopes to find a career as a veterinarian.
