Delaware Hospice’s Michelle Burris receives certification

January 1, 2017

Delaware Hospice announced that Chief Financial Officer Michelle Burris, MBA, FACMPE, received her fellowship from the American College of Medical Practice Executives.

Fellow status is the highest level of distinction one can achieve in the medical practice management profession. "It is a rewarding journey that yields great professional and personal growth," said Burris. "Pursuing fellowship provides the opportunity to challenge yourself in a new way and demonstrate your ability as a leader in medical practice management."

After achieving board certification, which consists of multiple choice and essay tests on the body of knowledge for medical practice management, candidates are eligible to become fellows in the American College of Medical Practice Executives. To become a medical practice management thought leader through sharing their expertise and insights, candidates must prepare a professional thesis paper for submission that demonstrates the ability to collect, assimilate and synthesize information into knowledge; conduct a professional study that is defensible to peers; and clearly communicate in writing. This professional paper becomes a permanent part of the body of knowledge for medical practice management.

Once the FACMPE credential has been earned, there is an ongoing continuing education requirement of 50 hours every three years and maintaining a current Medical Group Management Association membership to sustain credential status. Of the more than 33,000 MGMA members, there are only about 2.7 percent active fellows within the organization.
