Delaware legislators barking up the wrong tree

April 13, 2017

House Bill No. 125 was introduced last week in the Delaware General Assembly. Titled Extreme Crimes Protection Act, this proposed legislation protects us from nothing.

The bill is simply a draconian measure which, if enacted, will reinstate the death penalty as a judicial option.

There is no evidence that the death penalty is a deterrent to crime. In fact, those states with capital punishment have a higher murder rate than those without the death penalty.

If the Delaware legislators are serious about protecting us from crime they would pass legislation to hire, train and compensate peace and correctional officers who work every day to protect us.
