March 11, 2017

The Delaware Shore Hockey U14 Breakers finished in second place in their pool with a 4-1 record at the National Indoor Tournament March 3-5.

The team opened competition March 3 with a 3-1 win over Rampage. Noelle Sabbagh had two goals, while Lily Ashby added one.

In their second game, the team defeated the Alley Cats White by a final of 5-2. Sabbagh and Ashby each tallied two goals, and Emma Sekscinski had one. The goalie for the first two games was Bella Myers.

On March 4, they again won by a final of 5-2 over Reach Gray. Sabbagh scored a hat trick, while Ashby and Liv Muir each contributed a goal.

The only stumbling block the team hit was in the fourth game of the tournament, a 2-3 loss to the eventual pool champion, NJ Starz Blue. Sabbagh had both the goals for the team.

They finished the tournament with a 5-0 win over PA Power March 5. Sabbagh scored three goals, while Ashby had two. The goalie for the final three games was Elie Cerchio.

The U14 Lighthouse team started their tourney with a 4-2 win in their only game March 3. They defeated the Warlocks with goals by Reagan Ciabattoni and Sommer Dorman.

Moving into Saturday morning, the team won a close game over Charlotte Ambush by a final of 4-3. Ciabattoni, Maggie Dawson and Emma Duffield had the goals. After falling behind by two goals in their next game against Mystx Blizzard, the team regrouped behind goals by Ciabattoni and Dorman to earn the win.

The first game on Sunday morning was a highly disputed loss to Uprise Gray by a supposed score of 6-7. The actual score was 6-6, but one umpire had it as 6-7, so no effort could get it recorded properly. Ciabattoni (2), Ally Best, Emma Westbrook, Sam Connors and Dorman had the Lighthouse goals.

The team finished pool play with a 7-2 win over State College. Ciabattoni (5) and Lori Sapp (2) did the scoring. Both the Mystx and Lighthouse teams finished with identical 4-1 records, but the tie-breaker of total goals scored gave the pool championship to Lighthouse.

Outstanding goalkeeping for the team was provided by Julie Heffernan.
