Delaware Tech Board of Trustees welcomes two new members

Ernest Talbert Jr. and Michael Hare tenure effective immediately

Brig. Gen. Ernest G. Talbert Jr. and Michael J. Hare were nominated by Gov. John C. Carney and confirmed by the Senate May 10 as the newest members of Delaware Tech's Board of Trustees, effective immediately.

Talbert, a distinguished graduate of New York University's ROTC program, started flight training at Williams Air Force Base in Arizona, where he earned his wings in 1973. He was assigned to Charleston Air Force Base in South Carolina for the next five years until he began his career with the Delaware Air National Guard in 1979. He served in many leadership positions throughout his 30-year tenure with the Guard, including commander of the 142nd Airlift Squadron and commander of the 166th Operations Group.

In 2002, he became wing commander of the 166th Airlift wing and oversaw the largest mobilization in the wing's history. In 2005, he became the chief of staff, HQ, DANG and was promoted to the rank of brigadier general. Throughout his career he served in combat zones during Operation Desert Storm and operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. He retired in 2009.

Throughout his career, Talbert's broad diversity and scope of military flying and command earned him 26 awards, including the Legion of Merit with oak leaf clusters and the Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf clusters. In 2012, he was inducted into the Delaware Aviation Hall of Fame.

Talbert earned a BA in economics from New York University and an MBA from the University of Delaware's Lerner College of Business and Economics.

Hare joined the Buccini/Pollin Group in 2008 as executive vice president for development. His responsibilities include development management, acquisitions, public investment, and government relations. He currently serves as project director for the Chester Waterfront Redevelopment efforts.

Previously, Hare served as deputy director of the Riverfront Development Corporation of Delaware, a position he held from 1995 until 2008. Prior to his RDC appointment by Gov. Tom Carper in 1995, he was a senior development specialist at the Delaware Economic Development Office, where he was employed beginning in 1989.

Hare serves on the Board of Directors for the Boys & Girls Club of Delaware, EastSide Charter School, the Latin American Community Center, the Salvation Army, the Delaware Stadium Corporation, Friends of the Woodlawn Library, Riverfront Wilmington Improvement District, and the Rivers Edge Community Development Corporation. He also serves on the Real Estate and Construction Board of Saint Joseph's University and served on Wilmington City Council from 2001 until 2005.

Hare holds a bachelor of science degree in public administration from St. Joseph's University. He also attended Fels Center of Government at the University of Pennsylvania.
