Delaware Tech has top finishes at regional XC championship

Delaware Technical Community College hosted the 2017 NJCAA Region XIX Cross Country Championship at White Clay Creek in Newark Oct. 28. The Delaware Tech men’s team finished second overall, while the women’s team placed third.

Twenty-two teams from New Jersey, Delaware and Pennsylvania participated, with 157 athletes competing in the 8K distance (men) and the 5K distance (women). Two division championship team titles as well as individual titles (All-Region) were awarded to both the men's and women's fields.

Delaware Tech's Sean Saxton finished second overall in the men’s race in a time of 28:22. Delaware Tech’s other top runners were Alex Nieves, who placed third with a time of 29:45, and Dyce Bailey, who placed fourth with a time of 29:46. Stephen Constantinou (33:29) and Presley Nyandemo (33:36) rounded out Delaware Tech’s top runners.

Essex Community College won the Men’s Division I title with 28 points, narrowly beating Delaware Tech, which finished with 29 points.

On the women’s side, Katelyn Jensen had the fastest time for Delaware Tech with a time of 22:45, which placed her seventh overall. She was followed closely by Aliyah Navarro (24:07), Alison Treml (25:51), Riccy Amaya (25:54), and Morgan Logue (26:01) as Delaware Tech’s top runners. 

Mercer County Community College won the Women’s Division I title with 23 points, followed by Essex with 48 points, and Delaware Tech with 59 points.
