Delaware Technical Community College is officially launching its bachelor of science in nursing degree program. The online degree program is designed for current registered nurses who are ready to pursue the next level of nursing education while working in the field. The program will provide licensed RNs with baccalaureate-level education. Eligibility criteria include an active and unencumbered RN license, a clear background check and a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 at the time of nursing graduation.

"In response to Delaware's changing workforce needs in healthcare, Delaware Tech is proud to launch its RN to BSN degree program," said Delaware Tech President Mark Brainard. "Our No. 1 mission at the college is to provide a high-quality workforce for Delaware's business and industry. As the preferred credential for our state's largest healthcare employers shifts from an associate degree to a bachelor's degree, we are confident that Delaware Tech's RN to BSN program will help our acute care hospitals effectively respond to the additional educational requirement for their RNs."

Delaware Tech's RN to BSN online degree program is a competitive admissions program with limited enrollment. Students will be admitted twice a year. Eligible applicants should complete the steps to admission by Saturday, Oct. 15 for a spring semester start in January and Saturday, June 15 for a fall semester start in August. For more admissions information, go to www.go.dtcc.edu/RNtoBSN.

Nursing classes for the first Delaware Tech RN to BSN cohort will begin Monday, Jan. 9, 2017; applicants must apply by Saturday, Oct. 15. Applicants must submit an application to Delaware Tech (dtcc.edu/apply) and an application to the RN to BSN program (go.dtcc.edu/RNtoBSNapply).

The program application and information sessions are available online. An on-site information session will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 27, at the Jack F. Owens Campus, Carter Partnership Center, Room 529, 21179 College Drive, Georgetown.

Delaware Tech has a long history of providing high-quality nursing education. Since 1966, the college has prepared thousands of nurses for the local workforce, and the college continues to graduate more nurses annually than all of the other Delaware higher education institutions combined. While the college's nursing program size has increased by 135 percent, the percentage of Delaware Tech nursing graduates passing the national licensure exam remains high.
