Krystian Bates, Hannah Curran, Alex Reuben and Hannah Tattan attend invitation-only event
August 11, 2017

Delaware Tech students Krystian Bates, Hannah Curran, Alex Reuben and Hannah Tattan attended an intense week of information security learning and application at the U.S. Cyber Challenge camp. They capped off the experience July 21 by winning a Capture-the-Flag competition, which distinguishes them as some of the nation's top security talent.

Attendees to the invitation-only camp, which was held on the University of Delaware Newark campus, were selected based in part on their scores from Cyber Quests, an online competition that drew hundreds of competitors nationally. The camp event was run in collaboration with Delaware Tech, University of Delaware, Delaware State University, Wilmington University and the Delaware Department of Technology and Information.

The 2017 Cyber Summer Camp Series features three week-long camps located in Delaware, Illinois and Utah. The camps are an integral part of the USCC mission to identify and develop cybersecurity talent in order to reduce the nation's cybersecurity workforce gap. Participants are encouraged to continue developing their skills and network with like-minded individuals by becoming active members in CyberCompEx.org, an online community specifically geared toward cybersecurity enthusiasts.

An award ceremony followed the Capture-the-Flag competition and included words from Delaware Gov. John Carney, Sen. Tom Carper, State of Delaware Chief Security Officer Elayne Starkey, U.S. Cyber Challenge National Director Karen S. Evans, Dr. Chase Cotton of the University of Delaware and video remarks from Sen. Chris Coons and Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester.
