Delgato crew brings home Avalon Cup trophy

September 4, 2017

For the first time in 50 years, the Avalon Cup will find a home at Lewes Yacht Club.

Delgato skipper Nick Carter and crew won the New Jersey race Aug. 26 from Cape May Inlet to the McCrie Shoal Buoy. The fleet included several types of boats from five different yacht clubs.

Competing in the non-spinnaker division, Delgato finished with the top corrected time. Mahal, another Lewes Yacht Club boat, also competed in the regatta.

The Avalon Cup is one of three offshore races that make up the Mid-Atlantic Yacht Racing Association Cup. Delgato also won the recent Cape-to-Cape Challenge. Because of the two wins, Delgato won the association’s non-spinnaker championship, and the crew has been invited to the awards dinner Friday, Dec. 1, at Corinthian Yacht Club of Philadelphia.
