The Delmarva Christian High School baseball squad defeated Salisbury Christian School 6-4 May 21 to win the Eastern Shore Independent Athletic Conference tournament at the Royals’ home field in Georgetown.

Royals pitchers Brandon Schlabach and Andrew Workman scattered six hits and combined for 10 strikeouts.

Royals freshman Riley Culver singled up the middle to score Brandon Schlabach in the first inning; then Michael Briggs and Joseph Jones connected for RBI singles in the second inning. With the Royals up 4-2 in the fourth inning, Wes Hobbs walked and Michael Briggs laid down a bunt for a base hit to put runners on first and second with no outs. Riley Culver delivered with a single down the left field line to score the winning RBIs.

Will Kaputa had multiple hits and scored twice for the Jaguars.

“Salisbury Christian played a great game, and we are looking forward to playing them again next year,” said Delmarva Christian head coach Eric Reiske. “Errors cost us, but Brandon [Schlabach] and Andrew [Workman] pitched out of trouble all game and were dominant on the mound. I'm very proud of how these kids have grown and where the program is headed.”

Royals making the All-Tournament team were Joseph Jones, Wes Hobbs, Michael Briggs and Andrew Workman. Brandon Schlabach received honorable mention. Workman also garnered ESIAC Co-Player of the Year honors.
