Delmarva Christian volleyball bags Mallards in ESIAC semifinal

Royals follow with win over Holly Grove for ESIAC Championship
October 23, 2017

The Delmarva Christian High School volleyball team dominated play right from the starting serve and never let up as they scored a 25-8, 25-10 and 25-14 win over Worcester Prep in the Eastern Shore Independent Athletic Conference semifinals Oct. 18 on their home court.

Setter Ashlyn Stonebraker began the match by serving 12 winning points in a row to put the Mallards flocking and end the Royals bag limit.

“I was very impressed with every aspect of our game tonight,” said Royals coach Jim Berger. “When the ball was on our half of the court we took care of the ball very well. From passing to serving to hitting we took care of the ball. We limited our errors, which was nice to see.”

Junior middle hitter Hannah Picconi led the Royals with 17 kills while Stonebraker and Olivia Berger evenly split 24 assists. Libero Siera Jones garnered 10 digs in the contest. Camryn Breasure added five kills.

“We played really well,” said Picconi. “Pass, set, serve, everything was working out.”

“Hannah did great tonight,” said Stonebraker. “We play travel volleyball together, and it has given us a lot of time to build a setter-hitter relationship.”

“We’re one step closer to checking off another goal, which is winning the ESIAC Tournament,” said Berger.

And the squad did just that, as Delmarva Christian defeated Holly Grove Christian School 25-18, 25-20, 25-20 to win the conference tournament.
