Derek ‘Der’ Earl Seward, Carlton Amusements operator

Derek "Der" Earl Seward, 52, of Milton, passed away Monday, July 17, 2017, at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford, following a courageous six-year battle with cancer. He was born Friday, March 5, 1965, in Dover, son of Carlton Seward and Shirley (Baker) Seward.

Mr. Seward was a graduate from Smyrna High School Class of 1983. He went on to further his education in business at Salisbury University and Delaware State University before taking over the family business, Carlton Amusements. Mr. Seward would operate the business until current, bringing joy to countless people among the community. He was an active member of American Legion Post 14 in Smyrna. Mr. Seward was an avid sports fan; the Oakland Raiders, Baltimore Orioles and Philadelphia Flyers were among his favorites. He loved fishing, playing with his many pets, and most of all spending time with his friends and family.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Seward is survived by his loving wife and devoted caretaker of 23 years, Laura A. (Gangewere) Seward; his one daughter, Heather Parseghian and her husband Steve of Smyrna; his two sons: Kody Seward and Daulton Seward, both of Milton; his two grandchildren: Trent and Lily; his one brother, Eric Seward and his wife Junie of Middletown; his niece, Taylor Seward and his nephew, Zach Seward; his mother-in-law, Marion Gangewere and her husband Al; his two brothers-in-law, Clark Gangewere and his wife Bev, and Michael Gangewere; his sister-in-law, Debbie Cortes and husband Steve; numerous other extended family; and his beloved dog Bear and cat Striper.

All services are private. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes.
