Dianne E. Custance, avid book reader

March 27, 2017

Dianne E. Custance, 76, of Dagsboro, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes. She was born Friday, Jan. 31, 1941, in Manhattan, N.Y., daughter of the late William LeRoy and Kate Elizabeth (Bodnar) Hedley.

Dianne moved to Delaware with her husband almost 20 years ago from New York. She enjoyed living near the beach and the time spent there making memories with her family. She was an avid book reader, and also loved to read the local newspapers and magazines. She was extremely thoughtful and considerate, as she was always well known for remembering dates and events of her family and friends.

She adored her grandchildren and loved to hear from them about their hopes, their dreams and their accomplishments. Dianne had a very special bond with her only sibling, her sister, April Jordan and her godchild Cathy Jordan Attanasio. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Dianne is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Fredric W. Custance; her daughter, Kim Coberley (Charles) of Brooklyn, Mich.; and her sons, Christopher Custance (Christine) of Red Lion, Pa., and William Custance (Kristin) of Wayne, N.J.; her eight grandchildren: Katelyn, Charlotte, Emma, Daniel, Evan, Claire, Collin and Logan; her sister, April Jordan of Wingdale, N.Y.; and many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law; and nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 15, at St. Martha's Episcopal Church, 117 Maplewood St., Bethany Beach, at 11:30 a.m., with a luncheon served after the service for family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Martha's Episcopal Church.

Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
