Dick Cecil of Lewes receives Distinguished Service Award

Richard "Dick" Cecil of Lewes recently retired as state director of the Selective Service System. Cecil was joined by colleagues and family at a luncheon in Dover where he was recognized for 14 years of service.

National Selective Service System Director Don Benton presented Cecil with the Distinguished Service Award.

Cecil said he thoroughly enjoyed his role and contributions, and he felt it was time to pass the torch. He expressed gratitude for the recognition and privilege to serve his home state in such capacity.

A native of Delaware, Cecil holds degrees from University of Delaware and Cornell University, and he has served in many leadership capacities for the state. For more than 20 years, he served on New Castle County Council, and he currently serves as director of the Delaware Association of Counties.
