Dining with Diabetes workshops to start Oct. 25 in Georgetown

October 11, 2016

The University of Delaware Cooperative Extension will host Dining with Diabetes, a four-session workshop, from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesdays, Oct. 25, Nov. 1, Nov.15 and Nov. 22 at the Carvel Research and Education Center, Georgetown, a quarter-mile west of Sussex Tech High School.

The program is designed for people with diabetes and their family members. The four classes include diabetes education, cooking demonstrations and tasting healthy foods. Participants will take home recipes as well as information on how to better manage diabetes in their daily lives.

Following a careful meal plan is the first step in managing diabetes and keeping blood sugars in a therapeutic range, the hardest part of diabetes management. University of Delaware Extension experts, registered dieticians, health educators, nutrition assistants and master food educator volunteers teach participants the methods to reduce sugar, salt and fat in foods without giving up good taste.

The fee for the four-session classes is $50, however, scholarships are available. For more information, contact Kim Lewis at 302-856-7303 or go to www.extension.udel.edu/fcs and search Dining with Diabetes.
