Dogfish, nature conservancy partner for Milton kiosk

Dogfish Dash funds support informational display in Milton
August 31, 2016

Dogfish Head Craft Brewery, The Nature Conservancy and the Town of Milton have partnered to provide a new, informational kiosk in Milton Memorial Park, near the Milton-McCabe Preserve waterway connector.

Earlier this year, The Nature Conservancy and Dogfish Head Craft Brewery offered to fund an update to the town's kiosk, which after 20 years of wear and tear, needed some love. Thanks to funding raised by the annual Dogfish Dash – the event has raised nearly $500,000 for The Nature Conservancy since 2007 – the brewery and the conservancy seized the opportunity for public outreach.

"People are increasingly disconnected from nature and having these little pockets like the McCabe Nature Preserve is key," said Maria Dziembowska, director of community outreach and partnerships at The Nature Conservancy. "Our goal is to preserve nature and conserve the beauty of all these places, but also to have people enjoy it."

Signs on the new kiosk give a history of the Edward H. McCabe Preserve, detail rules for using the preserve and offer a guide for canoeing, kayaking or paddleboarding down the Broadkill River. The opposite side of the kiosk provides space for the town to post information about upcoming events. The Nature Conservancy dedicated the kiosk to the town in August.
