Dogfish Weekend of Compelling Ales & Whatnot set March 24-25

Brewery hosts celebration of rare, off-centered ales and grub pairings
March 3, 2018

Dogfish Head  announced that the 8th annual Weekend of Compelling Ales & Whatnot celebration of adventurous craft beers and savory food pairings will kick off  Saturday, March 24, at Dogfish Head Craft Brewery, and continue at Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats, Chesapeake & Maine, Dogfish Inn and the Milton brewery through Sunday, March 25. This wildly wonderful weekend brings together all things Dogfish and invites friends to take part in enjoying rare beers paired alongside gastronomical, beer-centric foods created by the chefs at Chesapeake & Maine, Dogfish Head’s geographically enamored seafood restaurant.

“WOCAAW is our annual celebration for hardcore beer lovers, and it’s one of my favorite events of the year here at Dogfish,” said Sam Calagione, founder and CEO of Dogfish Head Craft Brewery. “Our brewers and chefs pull out all the stops to deliver our most coveted, cult-like experimental beers and food for friends to enjoy at our home base in Milton. I’m also excited to welcome back my old friend, Liquor de Malt, for the 8th anniversary of WOCAAW - we first brewed this malt liquor back in 2009, and it still ranks up there as one of my all-time favorite Dogfish fermentable creations.” Liquor de Malt is the world's only bottle-conditioned malt liquor brewed with red, white and blue gourmet corns, and it will be on the lineup for WOCAAW guests to enjoy.

VIP guests will receive a special hand-stamped 40-oz. bottle of Liquor de Malt packaged in a brown bag and will also have the option to enjoy VIP sessions with Dogfish Head brewers where they’ll be taken along on a journey in Homebrewing 101 and Advanced Homebrewing along with a special Q&A session with Calagione.

A pre-WOCAAW brunch will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, March 24, at  Chesapeake & Maine restaurant in Rehoboth Beach. WOCAAW will be held from 3 to 7 p.m., Saturday, at the Dogfish Head Craft Brewery in Milton. This indie craft beer-culinary experience will feature specially prepared tastings including rare beers and divine food along with special tours of the Steampunk Treehouse and brewery.

The brewers at Dogfish concocted an over-the-top lineup of delicious selections for attendees to enjoy with the delectable food pairings including some WOCAAW exclusives made from the brand-new R&D system at the brewery, such as Triple IPA – a Citra, Cascade and Simcoe triple dry-hopped India Pale Ale; Boysenberry Creamsicle Sour – a kettle sour brewed with boysenberry juice and lactose, then aged on Madagascar beans; Sour Cherry Jam – a barrel-aged dark cherry sour ale; Trans-Neptunian Object – a Galaxy dry-hopped brett Saison; Gettin’ Prickly With It - a mango and prickly pear Gose with red Hawaiian sea salt; Juicy McJuiceyman - a double IPA; and Yuz So Good – a pale ale with yuzu, lemongrass and jasmine rice. Guests can also be on the lookout for far-out twists on Dogfish classics like Palo Santo Marron aged in Scotch barrels – a wood-aged classic taken to a new level; Siracusa Caber-Nero – Siracusa Nera aged in Cabernet Sauvignon barrels; Bourbon Barrel Aged Palo Santo Marron – a classic Palo Santo aged in Bourbon barrels; Sonic Archeology – a Prohibition-inspired whiskey cocktail with rum, brandy, honey, lemon and pomegranate juice; and Liquor de Malt, along with a special appearance from IN YOUR MACE! – a coffee milk stout brewed with cinnamon verum chips from the Zanzibar Islands, mace spice, milk sugars, coffee, chicory, and chili oils - the active ingredient in Mace Brand (yep, the pepper spray) and more.

A delicious post-WOCAAW themed brunch is set for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday, at Dogfish Brewings & Eats restaurant in Rehoboth Beach.

A WOCAAW 2-day package at the Dogfish Inn is available. A Super VIP Innclusive includes tickets to the Saturday event at the brewery, shuttle service from the Dogfish Inn to the brewpub in Rehoboth and the Milton brewery, breakfast with Sam Calagione at the Inn Saturday morning and 15 percent off at Brewings & Eats all weekend and at Chesapeake & Maine for Sunday brunch.
