Dominick ‘Nick’ A. Esposito, loved animals

Dominick A. “Nick” Esposito, 82, passed away peacefully at home near Millsboro, Tuesday, April 18, 2017, after a brief illness. He was born in Wilmington, to parents Louis Esposito and Vincentia (Scarmozzi) Esposito.

Dominick is survived by his wife of 35 years, Bessie "Bonnie" M. Esposito; children Linda Esposito Hurd, Tina Anderson and spouse Enoch Anderson, Denise Lingenfelter and spouse Franklin Lingenfelter, Kenneth Esposito and spouse Cecilia Esposito, Stephanie Carpenter and spouse Chris Carpenter. He is also survived by stepsons Kenneth Matthias and Brian Matthias.

In addition, he is survived by grandchildren Gayle Rutter, Christina Wooten, Jaime deBrabander, Nicholas Hurd, Evan Anderson, Sarah Witkowski, Franklin Lingenfelter III, Isabella Esposito, Nikki Castner and Rickey Carpenter, along with seven great-grandchildren. Other survivors include siblings Louis Esposito Jr. and spouse Cheryl, Lucy Thomas, Jeanette Lindsey, and Sharon Jacobs.

Dominick served seven years in the U.S. Army, and 20 years as a federal civil service chief mechanic for the Delaware National Guard Army Reserve, retiring in 1996 as staff sergeant, E6. He was also a graduate of Delaware High School.

He loved animals, particularly cats. He enjoyed tending to neighborhood strays, feeding and sheltering them, and inviting his favorites inside to be part of his family.

He was also known for his kindheartedness to hungry animals on his post-retirement paper route, handing out food to those in need. It was also known that he brought home two stray chickens from a daily paper run. But sadly, they never made it into the family fold. Nick was also an avid fisherman, who enjoyed the open waters and surf fishing.

Services will be held at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, Tuesday, April 25, at 9:30 a.m.

Interment will be held at Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, immediately after services with military honors, beginning at 11 a.m.

Contributions in memory of Dominick may be made to the Delaware SPCA, Georgetown Chapter, 22918 DuPont Highway, Georgetown, DE 19947.
