Donald Lee Carmean, Sussex Co. engineer

Mr. Donald Lee Carmean, 62, of Millsboro passed away at home in the care of his family Monday, June 18, 2018. Mr. Carmean was born Feb. 19, 1956, to the late Donaldson P. "Firpo" and Kathryn "Kitty" Beebe Carmean.

Donald retired from The DuPont Co. in 2001 after 24 years of service. He then worked as a utility engineer for Sussex County for 13 years, retiring in 2017. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 19, where he was 2nd vice commander, and past sergeant at arms, Detachment of Delaware. He was also a past member of both the Georgetown and Millsboro fire companies.

Donald was a very passionate family man who enjoyed spending time with his family camping, fishing, and helping others. He spent a lot of time volunteering for various organizations.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years: Wanda L. Carmean of Millsboro; three children; Stephanie Kelley (Brian) of Laurel, Donald L. Carmean Jr. (Ronda) of Batesburg, S.C., and Wendy Carmean of Laurel; five sisters; Shirley Hitchens of Georgetown, Peggy Coulbourne (Jim) of Milton, Becky Perry (Bob) of Georgetown, Jo Ann Matthias (Kenny) of Georgetown, and his twin sister, Donna Lathbury (Dave) of Dagsboro. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Sidney Marvel Jr., Corey Marvel, Kevin Todd Jr., Matthew Carmean, Donald Baker III, Olivia Snell, Layton Carmean and Hudson Carmean. He also leaves behind six great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and other extended family.

A funeral service will be held at noon, Saturday, June 23, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon for a time of visitation and viewing. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Georgetown.

Flowers are welcome or donations may be made in Donald's memory to Sons of the American Legion Post 19, 12168 Laurel Road, Laurel, DE 19956.
