Doris ‘Hank’ Lynch, a real golf nut

Doris (Hank) Lynch, 96, of Kilmarnock, Va., passed away with loving family by her side 
April 7, 2017, following the death of her husband, Don Lynch, in 2011, after 67 years of marriage.

Hank was born to Henry and Martha Benedict of Broadalbin, N.Y., Jan. 23, 1921. She grew up there skipping a grade and attended Hartwick College at the age of 16. Hank then worked at GE where she trained secretaries and caught the eye of her future husband, Don Lynch. She became a stay-at-home mom, raising three children and living in Fort Wayne, Ind., where she and Don built their own home; West Caldwell, N.J., Louisville, Ky., and, in 1982, Kilmarnock, Va. Hank and Don and the kids loved spending summer vacations at the Lynch cottage in Lewes Beach, and seeing long-time friends. Hank enjoyed sailing and boating up and down the Atlantic coast with Don for many years. When on land, they were involved in philanthropic affairs wherever they lived. Hank was also an avid golfer, bridge player, painter and photographer. Calling herself a "golf nut," she competed for more than 10 years in Kentucky state amateur tournaments, achieving a 13 handicap and earning many prizes.

She is survived by her daughter Joanna Lynch and partner Mark Youdall; son Jeffrey Lynch and partner Wendy Good,;daughter Tracy Krause and spouse Richard Krause; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at the gravesite at Lewes Presbyterian Church, 133 Kings Highway in Lewes, starting at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 21. Friends and family are invited to come a half hour early to visit. A celebration of Hank's life will be held at the Lynch cottage afterwards. Details will be provided at the service.

Donations may be made to The Greater Lewes Community Village, a nonprofit organization helping older adults to live at home independently for as long as possible, or any other local charity of choice.
