Dorothy M. Furches, accomplished musician

Dorothy M. Furches, 81, of Millsboro, formerly of Virginia, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2017.

Dorothy was born in Alexandria, La., Dec. 11, 1935, daughter of the late Kennie McFarland and Ruby (Marler) McFarland.  She received her degree in library science from the University of Utah where she also student taught the organ.  

Mrs. Furches served as a librarian in a variety of institutions from high schools to universities.  She was a professional musician who could play the organ, piano, flute and could also sing.  Dorothy volunteered her time in several women’s civic organizations in Virginia.  After her retirement to Delaware, Dorothy served as a choir director at New Life Bible Fellowship Church in Millsboro, and also enjoyed playing the bells in the bell choir.  She was attending the East Gate Presbyterian Church in Long Neck.

She is survived by her loving husband, William Roy Furches; two children, Bryan Furches and his wife Mary of Willards, Md., and Cheryl Furches of Millsboro; and three grandchildren, Elyse Abercrombie, Grace Furches and Aaron Furches.  

A memorial service will be held at a later date with interment at Henlopen Memorial Park in Milton.
