Douglas Jerome Davis, Kung Fu instructor

Douglas Jerome Davis, 62, of Milford passed away unexpectedly at Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016.

He was born in North Hampton County, Va., Nov. 13, 1953, to the late John Heath and Elizabeth Davis. He led an interesting life as a counselor for the Department of Correction in Delaware, and had previously served as a probation and parole officer. He was a member of Kingdom Empowerment Christian Church in Seaford. He served as a board member of Slaughter Neck Community Center, Coverdale Community Center, and Pinetown Community Center.

He was a Kung Fu instructor since 1979 (Shaolin Long Fist). He spent his life as a mentor, tutor, counselor and judge of Kung Fu contests.

He is survived by his children: Lavenia Suarez (LaMar) of Millsboro, Darius Davis, of Millsboro and Tyraa Felton (Joseph) of Milford. He also has three sisters: Cynthia Epps (Edward) of Oakland, Calif., Janet M. Davis of Milton, and Stacey Walker (Damon), of Frederica; and two brothers: Floyd G. Davis of Georgetown and Manuel Davis, of Milton. There are nine grandchildren. He is also survived by his special friend, Matilda Santos of Wilmington; a goddaughter: Wanda Hicks of Felton; and a godson: Dhasan Muhammad.

An evening of viewing and visitation will be held Friday, Sept. 2, from 6 till 8 p.m., at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro. On Saturday, Sept. 3, a viewing and visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., at  Calvary United Methodist Church, 301 Southeast Front St., Milford. A funeral service and celebration of his life follows at 1 p.m.,, with Pastor Mason McGill officiating. Interment follows in Milford Community Cemetery. Flowers are accepted, or memorial contributions to the Ronald McDonald House.
