November 19, 2017

Downtown Milford Inc. held its annual meeting Nov. 2 at the Milford Senior Center. Members, volunteers and guests were treated to an evening that included the election of new board officers, continuing and new board members, and the honoring of special individuals for their contributions to DMI during the transition to find a new executive director.

Outgoing board President Lisa Fitzgerald opened the meeting and thanked the board and volunteers for their dedicated service. Fitzgerald said, "While I will be leaving the board after six years of service to spend more time with my family, I will continue to support DMI and the ideals of Main Street."

New Executive Director Murrie Zlotziver announced the new DMI board. Those elected were Sara Pletcher, president; Peg Reilly, vice president; Pat Sparks, secretary; and Robert Starkey, treasurer. Board member elected to a two-year term was Walt Hepford. New board members elected were Matt Babbitt, site manager, Abbott’s Mill; Tod Van Eyken, executive director, Boys & Girls Club of Milford; and Sher Valenzuela, vice president, First State Manufacturing. Continuing board members include David Pickrell, Paige Evers, Mark Dissinger and Lang Redden.

Pletcher addressed the group and emphasized the importance of each committee: organization, promotion, economic vitality and design. She said, "Each committee is an integral part of the success DMI has attained and will continue to play an active role as we move forward to strengthen downtown Milford."

Special thanks were given to Eric Noremberg; Milford City Manager Lorraine Dion, who served as DMI interim executive director; Diane Laird, state coordinator Downtown Delaware; and Pat Sparks, DMI board member. Each received a new Downtown Milford gift certificate from the program that will encourage residents to shop locally in Milford. A social hour followed the business meeting allowing all members and guests to reminisce about the past year and discuss the new plans for the future.
