Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration set in Lewes Jan. 14

The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Organization of Sussex County Inc. invites everyone to participate in the 25th annual commemorative weekend celebration in honor of the late civil rights leader Saturday, Jan. 14.

Morning festivities will begin with a parade at 11 a.m. in Lewes, followed by a banquet at 4:30 p.m. at the CHEER Center in Georgetown. The speaker will be the Rev. Dr. William T. Wallace Sr., co-founder of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Weekend Celebration and pastor of Union United Methodist Church in St. Michaels, Md.

The celebration will conclude with a community worship service at 10 a.m., Monday, Jan., 16, at Christ's Church on County Road 285, Harbeson. The Rev. Dr. Yvonne Bronson of John Wesley in Milford Neck Church will bring the message accompanied by The Gospel Disciples of Trinity Faith Christian Center in Lewes.

The 2017 theme is In Times of Challenge and Controversy, Faith Triumphs Over Adversity. Everyone must realize they live in a diverse society and regardless of the differences, all lives matter. Together they can and must do more to fulfill the dream. Everyone is his brother's keeper. May all come together as a strong community and make the dream a reality. The focus will continue to be on youth with special emphasis on saving families.

Banquet tickets are $35 for adults and $15 for children age 12 and under. Advance sales only. No tickets sold at the door. Deadline to purchase tickets is Wednesday, Jan. 4.
