Dwight Everett Long, former Whiskers owner

Dwight Everett Long, 77, passed away peacefully Friday, Aug. 26, 2016, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes. He was born April 3, 1939m and raised in Beaver, Pa. by parents Carleton and Dorothy Long.

He attended Beaver Area High School and graduated in 1957. Dwight was also a graduate of the University of Denver, and completed a law degree from the Delaware Law School at Widener University. He retired from ICI Americas in Wilmington as a director of transportation services. He and his wife were the previous owners of Whiskers Restaurant in Long Neck.

Dwight's post retirement career was a gaming inspector for the state of Delaware's lottery in Dover.
Dwight was a world traveler, avid rail fan, incredible cook, dedicated husband, father and grandfather, history buff, general contractor, loyal Indy 500 attendee, and took immense pride and care of his impressive library of railroad, fiction and non-fiction books. It was his passion to ride, photograph and write about trains and streetcars.
He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Robyn Long; son, Rob Long of Pittsburgh, Pa.; stepsons John and Jason Bender of Chichester, Pa.; daughter Holly Kugeler of Denver, Colo.; and four grandchildren, "Little John" Bender, Alicen Long, and Tanner and Kaimbry Kugeler. He is also survived by his brother Doug; sister Carolyn; and his ever present feline companion, Rocky.
A private memorial service will be held at a future date.
