Easter Seals announces buy a brick fundraiser for Camp Fairlee

March 30, 2017

Easter Seals Delaware and Maryland's Eastern Shore is kicking off the Buy a Brick campaign for Camp Fairlee in Chestertown, Md. The brick campaign is the final stage of CAMPaign Fairlee, a $4.5 million campaign for the camp that provides people with disabilities once-in-a-lifetime opportunities, while also providing respite to their caregivers.

The Pathway of Memories, built with commemorative bricks, will connect campers and guests from their newly built cabins to the many buildings and programs throughout the Camp Fairlee campus. To purchase and personalize bricks, go to www.de.Easter Seals.com, then Get Involved and then Buy a Brick-Camp Fairlee.

"I was inspired to purchase a brick because I wanted to honor a special friend and colleague," Virginia Nobles said. "I love Camp Fairlee because of the experiences it provides to people with disabilities. Some of our campers have only one week out of the year to experience nature and outdoor activities like the zip line or canoeing. Buying a brick is a tangible way to honor or memorialize a loved one."

Easter Seals' CAMPaign Fairlee already has raised more than $4.2 million due to the early support of various companies, foundations and individuals in the community. The public is challenged to join this community-based, grassroots effort to help raise the remaining $300,000 of the total needed to pay for the recent upgrades to the 250-acre campus in Chestertown.

Four new, fully accessible cabins, a new health center, an expanded dining hall and a new 12,000-square-foot activity center have been added thanks to the campaign. These changes are already allowing the camp to serve more families and connect new partners interested in renting the facilities.

Camp Fairlee provides a typical residential camp experience for children and adults with disabilities year-round. Fairlee offers week-long camp sessions throughout the summer, travel trips throughout the year and weekend respite/retreat programs from August through May.

Easter Seals Delaware and Maryland's Eastern Shore offers a range of services, including children's therapies, assistive technology, recreational camping, day programs for adults with physical or intellectual disabilities, and respite services for caregivers.
