Eastern Shore Lacrosse Club tryouts set Aug. 20

August 6, 2017

The Eastern Shore Lacrosse Club will hold tryouts Sunday, Aug. 20, for girls’ lacrosse players entering fourth to 11th grades. This will mark Eastern Shore's 10th season of coaching young women in lacrosse and helping high school lacrosse players navigate the college recruiting process.

"We are really excited to be entering our 10th year at Eastern Shore,” said Lyn Shoop, ESLC assistant coach of the 2019 team. “We are lucky to attract so many great players from schools all over the Delmarva Peninsula, and even some out-of-state girls who spend their summers in our area. I joined the staff of ESLC two years ago when we moved full time to the area. I was impressed with their program and their mission of developing players and growing the sport of lacrosse."

The Eastern Shore Lacrosse Club was founded in 2007 by Dr. Harlan Eagle with the goal of helping kids reach their potential in the sport of lacrosse. Since its inception, the ESLC Pirates have attended hundreds of lacrosse tournaments throughout the region, and the program has helped more than 50 young athletes continue their lacrosse careers in college.

Of the club, recent graduate Cailey Thornburg said, "Eastern Shore brought me to many tournaments that helped me gain attention from many colleges and coaches. Without the program, I would not have been introduced to Mercer University, where I will be playing Division I college lacrosse next year."

Other Division I programs where former ESLC Pirates were recruited to play lacrosse include University of North Carolina, Stanford, Penn, Temple, Towson, George Mason, Virginia Tech, Furman, Hofstra, Winthrop and East Carolina.

Tryouts will take place on Champions Field at Cape Henlopen High School, 1250 Kings Hwy., Lewes. Tryouts will run on the following schedule:

9 to 10:30 a.m. - 2025s and 2026s (rising fifth- and fourth-graders)

9 to 10:30 a.m. - 2023s and 2024s (rising seventh- and sixth-graders)

10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. - 2021s and 2022s (rising ninth- and eighth-graders)

12:30 to 2 p.m. - 2019s and 2020s (rising 11th- and 10th-graders).
