Edna Mitchell Hudson, DeBraak waitress

September 20, 2016

Edna Mitchell Hudson, 95, passed away Friday, Sept. 16, 2016, at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford.

Edna was born in Lewes and lived there all her life. She was one of nine children, and her father delivered her at home because the snow was level with the horse’s belly and the doctor could not get there. She worked at the Hosiery Mill in Lewes, seaming nylons, and also at the Bay View Inn on Lewes Beach in the late ‘40s. She worked as a waitress at the Debraak Restaurant, also on Lewes Beach.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, William A. Hudson; her daughter Catherine “Kitty” Elliott and her husband Jerry; a grandson Steve and his companion Marie; great-grandchildren Kaya, Teague and Bryn; sisters Bessie Walker and Beatrice Simms; brother Alfred Mitchell; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father Henry Mitchell and her mother Marion Catherine Ash Mitchell; brothers Pete and George Mitchell; and sisters Gertrude Kolbe and Ethel Holton.

A special thank you to her sister Bessie, who was her primary caregiver, and to the Delaware Hospice Center, who were wonderful to Edna.

A visitation will be held Friday, Sept. 23, from noon to 1 p.m., in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton, with a graveside service to follow at Henlopen Memorial Park in Milton.
