Eileen Joann Smith, devoted volunteer

Eileen Joann Smith, 80, of Milton, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018, at her home. She was born Sunday, Oct. 17, 1937, in Washington, D.C., to Martin G. and Marion (McLearen) McAndrews.

Mrs. Smith was a graduate of Holy Name Academy, class of 1955, in Silver Spring, Md. She enjoyed a career as a director of communications at Doctors Hospital in Lanham, Md., from 1976 to her retirement in 2005. On April 14, 1956, she married the love of her life, Joseph C. Smith, at St. John's Church in Chillum, Md. In her spare time, Mrs. Smith volunteered at Beebe Tunnell Cancer Center and Midway Lions Club. Among varied interests, shopping was number one on the list, with the exception of doting on her adored grandchildren. Mrs. Smith was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was loved by many, and she will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 62 years, Joseph C. Smith of Milton; her sons: Kevin Smith and his wife Susan of Edgewater, Md., Brian Smith and his wife Dannette of Arnold, Md., Martin Smith of Clinton, Md., Stephen Smith and his wife Margie of Ridgely, Md., and Colin Smith of Pasadena, Md.; her grandchildren: Shanon Gale (Brendan), Lauren Fischer, Lily Smith, Courtney Sames (Nick), Briannon Smith, Brian Smith Jr., Daniel Smith, Jennifer Smith, Katy Tomlinson (Brent), Jeffrey DeShong (Hannah), Luke Smith, and Dominic Smith; her great-grandchildren: Spencer Gale, Conner Gale, Tanner Gale, Dylan Fischer, Madylan Fischer, Jordyn Beath, Kailyn Beath, Hailey Banwell, Braden Akgul, Brooke Akgul, Hannah Yalman, Caroline Tomlinson, and Roran DeShong; her sister, Mary K. Shipp; her nieces Pamela Shipp and Veronica Pallia; and her nephews: Mark Shipp and John Shipp.

A Funeral Service will be held Friday, Jan. 26, at 3 p.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may call beginning at 2 p.m. Interment will take place at a later date at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Washington, D.C.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Mrs. Smith's memory to the Midway Lions Club, P.O. Box 406, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
