Electoral College subject of talk at Rehoboth Beach Museum Nov. 3

October 28, 2016

The History of the Electoral College; why and how it was established, is the subject of a talk by John Gauger at the Rehoboth Beach Museum Thursday, Nov. 3, at 7 p.m. The presentation will bring to light how and why the Electoral College was established, its workings since, and its meaning to Delaware.

Problems with the Electoral College caused almost immediate change by the 12th Amendment. Concerns have prompted additional debate about the lack of popular vote, the "faithless elector" who goes his own way, and the need for Supreme Court intervention in Gore v Bush. Other changes have been attempted by law in several states. Small states such as Delaware have special concerns.

This is a non-partisan discussion. Audience participation will be encouraged. The Rehoboth Beach Museum is located at 511 Rehoboth Avenue. A $5 donation is suggested. Space is limited. Call (302) 227-7310 to save a seat.

Gauger holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Delaware. He taught social studies in Newark Special School District (now Christina) for nine years. Gauger also taught history and political science at Lehigh Carbon Community College for 33 years. He is now professor emeritus at Lehigh Carbon Community College. His is also known for his community service on Rehoboth city boards, and his work with the Rehoboth Beach Public Library and Epworth United Methodist Church. His writings have been published in Delaware History Journal.
