Elizabeth ‘Betty’ M. Mears, reitred 911 operator

Elizabeth "Betty" M. Mears, 83, of Millsboro, passed away Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford.

Betty was born in Millsboro, March 12, 1934, the daughter of the late Bill Atkins and Mary E. (Donoway) Atkins. She retired in 1996, as a Sussex County 911 operator with 20 years of service.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lemuel D. Mears in 1997. She is survived by a son, Jay H. Warrington of Milford; and three daughters, Bonnie K. (Mears) Cathell of Frankford, Andrea G. Evans of Millsboro, and Denise M. Stowell of Millsboro. Betty is also survived by six grandchildren, Ashley Stowell, Bob Stowell, Zac Stowell, Devon Warrington, Derek Cathell and Darin Cathell; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Gib Atkins of Millsboro; and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 28, at her daughter Denise Stowell's home, 29200 Raccoon’s Point, Millsboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Betty’s name to Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
