Ellen Rice art of James Farm Preserve to be featured at real estate open house Oct. 8

October 6, 2017

Delaware artist Ellen Rice will host an art exhibit from 12 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 8, in a very different venue - her next-door neighbor's home.

Rice lives on the edge of the James Farm Ecological Preserve on the Cedar Neck peninsula in the Ocean View area. She has been inspired to paint views of the preserve for more than 20 years. She'll be showing some of her most serene inspirations in print and a brand-new painting of the area during an open house and James Farm Preserve art exhibit.

Her neighbors have put their house on the market and for many years have been collectors of Rice's works. Rice is going to add to those with paintings on easels showing different aspects of the preserve, and she will be available to answer questions about her paintings and what it is like to live so close to the nature preserve. Light refreshments will be served.

"It's quiet, even during the middle of summer. If you didn't venture out, except for the number of neighbors in town, you wouldn't know the season is going on," said Rice. "And yet, it's a mile from the ocean as the seagull flies, and next door in the James Farm you've got wooded hiking trails, kayaking, a hidden cove with a beautiful bayside beach, birding platforms and incredible views of the salt marshes and all the wildlife - heron, egrets, deer, fox, bald eagles, you name it - that lives there. It's an artist's dream to live here."

Rice, who has resided in the Reservation development off Cedar Neck Road for 25 years, will have easels set up in different parts of the 4-bedroom, 2,600-square-foot home corresponding to the views outside the windows.

Everyone is invited to take the home tour and talk with the artist about the inspiration for many of her bayside paintings. For more information or a sneak preview at all of her back bay area paintings, go to ellenrice.gallery.
