Elliott tosses no-hitter against CR as Vikings win 6-0

Cape junior and North Carolina commit Austin Elliott struck out 10 batters and walked two in a no-hitter against the visiting Caesar Rodney April 12 at Chris Short Field.

Elliott faced the minimum 21 batters in the 6-0 win. He also helped himself at the plate by powering a two-run home run in the third inning.

“Austin pounded the zone tonight,” said Cape coach Ben Evick. “He had full control of his fastball, curve and his changeup.”

The two players Elliott walked were picked off and thrown out by catcher Timmy Vitella while trying to steal second. His record went to 2-0 on the season with the victory, while the Vikings moved to 5-3-1.

Parker Savage and Zack Gelof hit singles in the game, while Noah Piper added a triple in the sixth inning.

On April 10, the Vikings traveled to Bridgeville and defeated the Blue Raiders 21-5.

They used 14 hits, including three doubles, to attain the victory. Gelof, Lucas Johnson and Will Geppert each hit doubles for the Vikings. The were also helped by six Woodbridge errors and four runs that were walked in.The Vikings scored 13 in the third inning.

Pitcher David Erickson took the win for the Vikings. 

“We put the ball in play hard,” Evick said. “We got up 6-1 in the first inning and went on from there.”

Cape will return to Smyrna Tuesday, April 18, to finish an April 3 tie game that was suspended in the 10th inning due to darkness.
