Elsie Pearl Hayden, devoted to family

Elsie Pearl Hayden (nee Stephens), 82, of Millsboro, and formerly of Riverdale, Md., passed away Thursday, March 1, 2018. 

Elsie grew up as one of 10 children in Southern Florida in the late 1930s. After high school she joined the U.S. Marine Corps where she played on the basketball team. Her career in the Marine Corps would lead her to Washington, D.C., where she met and married her husband Joseph, and they embarked upon their life together. Elsie will be remembered for her devotion and love for her family.

She is survived by her loving husband Joseph P. Hayde, Sr., with whom she shared 51 years of marriage; two children, Paula Lynch (Brian) of Killington, Vt., and Joseph P. Hayden Jr. (Caryl) of Barrington, N.J.; as well as four grandchildren, Allyson, Clay, Livvy and Kassie. She was also known as beloved "Aunt Elsie" to numerous nieces and nephews.

A private celebration of Elsie's life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donation in Elsie's Memory to Vitas Hospice, 30265 Commerce Dr., Suite 202, Millsboro, DE 19966.
