Emil Stephan Wolanin, crane operator

Emil Stephan Wolanin, 87, of Milford, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2018. He was born in Humniska, Poland to the late John and Victoria Wolanin. He immigrated to the United States in 1949, and became a U.S. citizen in 1955. Emil met his wife-to-be Cecilia in 1957. They married June 14, 1958, and shared more than 50 loving years together. Mr. Wolanin was a resident of Trainer from 1961 to 2006, and made Long Neck his permanent residence in 2006. For the past year, he resided at Milford Place Assisted Living in Milford.
He worked for 32 years for Scott Paper, retiring as a crane operator in June 1992. He was a longtime member of St. Hedwig's Church in Chester and served as an usher for many years. He also was a member of the Holy Name Society. He volunteered his time with the Boy Scouts and coaching CYO basketball. He enjoyed boating, fishing and crabbing in the Indian River area.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Cecilia Wolanin. He is survived by his children, Christina Hearn (Kevin), Stephen Wolanin (Kathleen), and Emil Wolanin (Natalie); six grandchildren, Keith, Stephen, Erica, Kelsey, Bradley and Kathryn, and six great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Aubrye, Glorianna, Nixon, Josephine and Juliette; sister Josephine Szczerba; and brother, Rudolph Wolanin.
His funeral Mass will be held Monday, May 7, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Hedwig's Church Chester, Pa. Friends and family are invited to his viewing Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m., and Monday from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m., at the Joseph A. Ward Funeral Home 1459 Market St. Linwood, Pa. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either the American Kidney Foundation or Delaware Hospice.
