Eugene ‘Buck’ Davis, active in church

April 16, 2018

"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." John 14:27

Eugene "Buck" Davis was 77 years old when Friday, April 13, 2018, he received an unexpected call from Jesus that it was time to come home to Heaven. He is now able to resume his previous singing church choir career as part of the most celestial choir ever known, and is rejoicing with those who have gone on before him.

Buck was born in Erie, Pa., March 6, 1941, to the late Eugene "Gene" Davis and Elizabeth "Bette" Davis. Buck graduated from Fort Leboeuf High School in 1959. He went on to become an apprentice, and then worked for General Electric in Erie until his retirement in 2005. He married his loving wife Bonnie, also of Erie, April 20, 1969. They spent 50 years together at each other's side.

Buck and Bonnie have two children and four grandchildren. His son, Jamey Davis, wife Laura and their two children Nicholas, 19, and Morgan, 17, reside in Charlotte, N.C. His daughter, Kim Trout, husband Brian Trout and their two children, Emily, 14, and Brayden, 11, reside in Bethany Beach.

Buck has many other loving family members. Brent (brother) and Marty Davis, Dean (brother) and Connie Reed, Judy (sister) and Jerry Johnson, Nancy (sister) and Bill Houston, Donna Hoydic (sister), cousins Marcia Troller, John Davis, Jerry Hustead, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his stepmother, Glenda Davis, Dale Reed (brother), Louise Phrofugi (sister), and many longtime friends and family members.

While residing in Erie, he and Bonnie were very active serving the Lord as a member of Grace Baptist Church for 24 years. Buck had a singing career in the church choir, and was part of many committees to serve others. He, Bonnie and his children made many good friends and created lasting memories along the way - the church picnics, the burning bush extravaganza, and the many fireworks experiments, just to name a few.

He and Bonnie moved from Erie in 2009 to Charlotte, N.C., to be near their son and his family, enjoying time with them and sprinkling joy to new friends they met. Most recently in March 2017, he and Bonnie moved to Bethany Beach to spend time with their daughter and her family, continuing to enjoy life while beginning to meet new people.

Buck made the most of every moment of his life. He found joy in absolutely everything. His main pride and joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Known as Poppy to his grandchildren, he was kind, thoughtful, and warmhearted, and he and his wife, Nanny, loved to spend time with them watching them grow up. There isn't anything he wouldn't do for them.

He was also an avid handyman, fixing just about anything. He was full of energy and had a positive spirit despite any situation he encountered. His kindhearted and empathetic nature was felt by everyone he met, if even for a brief encounter - it was a God-given gift.

There was a private, immediate family gathering to honor him and a life well-lived Sunday, April 15, at Melson's Funeral Home. He will be sadly missed by all whose life he touched.

If you would like to honor his memory and moments you shared with him, those condolences are appreciated and can be shared and enjoyed by his loving wife who resides at 79A October Glory Ave., Ocean View, DE 19970.
