Fairy Godmother brings trendy kids clothes to Lewes

Stylish outfits for boys and girls on Second Street
May 28, 2018

Much like a Fairy Godmother from a traditional fairytale, the new children’s clothing shop of the same name on Second Street in Lewes is here to bestow advice to kids – fashion advice, that is.

The new “magical little baby boutique” features a variety of trendy outfits for girls and boys, from newborn to 3T, along with accessories and decor for kids and mothers.

The shop is owned by Ashley King and her mother, Deanna Wagamon. They previously owned Deanna’s for 20 years and Piccolino for 12 years in the storefront next door, but sold it in 2016. The idea for the children’s shop came while they were helping the new owners buy for the next season at a show in New York. The concept of Fairy Godmother hadn’t even crossed their minds yet.

“We were going to open an accessory store here,” King said. “But we had to walk through the children’s part of the show to get to lunch, and it changed just that quick.”

The name of the shop comes from one of King’s close friends. King is the godmother to one of her daughters who calls her fairy godmother.

“That’s how we got the name,” she said.

The shop is small, but the clothes are organized in an open, flowing and inviting manner. King and Wagamon worked with designer Rebecca Fluharty to create a space that fits the stylish feel of the merchandise, incorporating an original brick fireplace with a wood ceiling beam and accent walls of shiplap and wallpaper.

“We love how cute everything is,” King said. “It seemed like a fun idea, and everyone who would be coming in would just be happy.”

She said she expects many customers to shop for gifts.

“We get a lot of grandmothers,” she said. “They’re the ones who really like to spoil their grandchildren.”

The shop, 103 Second St., is open daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., but hours are often extended. The shop will also extend hours during the summer season. For more information about Fairy Godmother, call 302-930-STAR (7827) or find them on Facebook or Instagram, where King will often post outfits available at the shop. Merchandise is available to ship or to be put on hold for customers.
