VIA family forum on domestic violence provides information on support services

October 24, 2017

The Domestic Violence Committee of the Village Improvement Association in conjunction with the Rehoboth Beach Library provided a Family Forum on Domestic Violence Oct. 14. Speakers from area agencies that provide services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault discussed the help they offer.

The presenters included: Trooper Adrienne Owen, Domestic Violence Policy/Training, Delaware State Police; Debra McCall Reed, director, Victim Services Unit, Delaware State Police; Kim Rigby, Communication and Donor Relations manager, People's Place; Jacqueline M. Sterbach, founder and CEO, What is Your Voice Inc.; and Cheri Will, Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence coordinator, Beebe Healthcare.

Every nine seconds, a woman in the United States is a victim of sexual assault or domestic violence. One in three women and one in four men have been physically abused by their partners. The number of domestic violence victims is an ever-growing but secretive part of the Sussex County population. The goal of the forum was to provide victim citizens of Sussex County with information on how and where they can receive help and services. Each of the presenters provided essential information on these topics.
