First Saturday events to return to Georgetown May 6

April 28, 2017

The Community Organizations of Georgetown, in partnership with the Greater Georgetown Chamber of Commerce, invite the public to a series of special events to be held over the course of five days this spring and summer.

These events, dubbed the First Saturday Stamp Tour, highlight many of the Sussex County Seat's special museums and historic sites, and will be open to the public free of charge on the designated dates.

Scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturdays, May 6, June 3, July 1, Aug. 5 and Sept. 2, the sites with free admission include the Old Sussex County Courthouse on South Bedford Street, the historic train station on Layton Avenue, the Nutter Marvel Carriage Museum on South Bedford Street, the Treasures of the Sea exhibit at Delaware Technical Community College, and the Masonic Lodge on East Market Street. Docents will be on site to give tours and answer questions about their respective locations.

"With a deep-rooted history here in Georgetown, we have several sites that the public can certainly view, appreciate and receive a good deal of value and historical significance from," says Angela Emerson, 2017 president of the Georgetown Chamber. "We're happy to partner with the Community Organizations of Georgetown for these public events, and we hope to showcase our historic properties to as many people as possible during these five special Saturdays."

Getting into the spirit of the events, several businesses around Georgetown will also be offering special discounts on the given days. Participating businesses include Arena's, the Georgetown Family Restaurant, the restaurant at the Brick Hotel, JD Shuckers, the Marvel Carriage Museum Gift Shop and 16 Mile Brewery. Visitors will need to present a stamp from at least one tour location in order to receive their discount or special offering at these participating businesses.
