First State Trade to hold grand opening June 28 in Harbeson

June 26, 2017

First State Trade will hold its grand opening from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday, June 28, at 26850 Lewes-Georgetown Highway in Harbeson in the former Donut Connection location. The event will include special sales, prizes and giveaways. The first 50 customers will receive a free gift with purchase. There will be complimentary beverages and snacks to enjoy while shopping.

Owners Jenny and Dave McMillan's plan for First State Trade is to have an eclectic mix of name brands coupled with unique, one-of-a-kind items including reclaimed wood art pieces made by Dave. Shoppers can find thousands of items including baby clothing, adult T-shirts, toys, home décor, unique gifts, jewelry, women's accessories, novelty items and much more. In the Steals and Deals room, shoppers can find heavily discounted items that may be less than perfect.

The McMillans have also designed and created their own trademarked brand of home décor and party items known as JennyGems. The brand has had tremendous success online and includes a variety of wood signs, wedding and party items, cake toppers, and gender reveal event products.

The McMillans want shoppers to have a fun, fresh, and unique experience along with friendly customer service for those looking beyond traditional mainstream retailers. This store also gives back to the community. Through their JennyGems brand, the McMillans have designed and created charity products. All profits from sales of their cancer sign series are donated to Relay for Life.

First State Trade also offers the convenience of a drive-through window, where customers can pick up online orders without having to leave their cars. Customers can also purchase items online for in-store pickup, or have them shipped to their home.

Formerly owners of McMillanBooks, Jenny and David have been in business since 2001. The couple began selling old books and antiques online as a hobby and to supplement their income. Through their success, they gradually expanded their product lines to include home décor, gifts, toys and novelty items, and eventually they changed the company name to First State Trade. In 2016, Jenny was selected by Amazon to attend the inaugural women's conference at Amazon's corporate headquarters in Seattle.

Since 2014, Amazon has asked for her continued participation in various press events to discuss the McMillans' successful online business and their experience as an Amazon retailer. The McMillans have received awards and recognition from Amazon and eBay for being a leading online retailer while offering outstanding customer service.
