Franklin Dale Emick, Lewes upholsterer

September 26, 2016

Franklin Dale Emick, 96, of Savannah Road in Lewes, passed peacefully at home Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016, in the arms of his wife of 69 years, Rose Ann Emick, nee Coviello.

Frank and Rose raised four children in Corning and then Olean, N.Y.: Paul G. Emick of Seaford, Sharon R. (John) Fougner of New Fairfield, Conn., Diane M. (Paul Giermek) Smith of Olean, and Leslie A. (Charles Jr.) Rodriguez of Selbyville. They have also been blessed with 15 grandchildren: Jennifer, Danielle, Jeremy, Shannon, Ben, Jessie, Tea, Nate (deceased), Nicolas, Kyle, Nicole, Brett, Raechelle, Jordan, and Greg; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Born July 11, 1920, in Liberty, Pa., he was a proud U.S. Navy Airedale during World War II. He served on the U.S.S. Franklin from the day it was launched until the day it was decommissioned, surviving both times the carrier sank.

Franklin owned and operated Frank Emick Upholstery for 27 years in Olean, then an additional 29 years in Lewes. In Olean, he was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Church, the Knights of Columbus, the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Olean Jaycees. After moving to Lewes in 1981, he joined St. Jude the Apostle Church and the Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge.

Franklin was one of the most loving, gentle, generous and caring people that God ever placed upon this earth, loved and respected by all who knew him. His family will be forever grateful for the gift of being blessed with his love.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m., at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church Tuesday, Sept. 27, where friends may visit beginning at 10 a.m.

As Franklin was married to the most beautiful Rose, in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Delaware Hospice, 16 Polly Drummond Center, 2nd Floor, Polly Drummond Shopping Center, Newark, DE 19711, or made online at www.delawarehospice.org.
