Offered by the Food Bank of Delaware
May 18, 2018

The Food Bank of Delaware, in partnership with the State of Delaware, offers free monthly food boxes, through the Commodity Supplemental Food Program, to eligible Delaware senior citizens who are at least 60 years of age. CSFP is a federal food program designed to improve the health of senior citizens. Food for the program is provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Agency of Food and Nutrition Service.

FBD currently has the capacity to distribute more than 2,200 meal boxes to seniors each month through area sites such as senior centers, food closets and senior residences. Boxes include staples such as canned fruits and vegetables, juice, meats, cereals, milk products, pasta, rice and cheese. Fresh produce is also distributed when available.

"Many Delaware seniors oftentimes choose between buying groceries and paying for medicine," said Food Bank of Delaware President and CEO Patricia Beebe. "Far too many are living on extremely fixed incomes. No senior should be forced to cut pills in half in order to stretch their budget so they can buy medicines and groceries. The Commodity Supplemental Food Program is an important way to help seniors make ends meet while ensuring a healthy diet."

To qualify for the program, seniors must be at least 60 years old, have Delaware residency and meet income eligibility guidelines. To sign up, individuals must provide proof of age, proof of residency and proof of income. For more information or to register, contact David Weddle at dweddle@fbd.org or 302-444-8129.
