Friends of Canalfront Park donates 20K for dock replacement

April 18, 2017

The Friends of Lewes Canalfront Park donated $20,000 to the City of Lewes to replace the floating dock in the park.

Work is already underway on the $94,000 project, which is expected to be completed by the end of April.

In February, mayor and city council approved the lowest bid from Murtech Marine Division of Salisbury, Md.

City officials closed access to the floating docks in 2016 after they were deemed unsafe. The project will see the removal and disposal of damaged ramp sections, replacement with an aluminum deck frame and foam-filled polyethylene floats, and the installation of a new kayak safety launch. The project will replace the damaged docks in the same configuration as they exist today, but eliminate a short center dock. The kayak safety launch, which offers an easier way to get in and out of kayaks, is the only new feature.
