Friends of Lewes Public Library say thanks

November 2, 2017

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Friends of the Lewes Public Library fall book sale.

These sales and the weeks of preparation that lead up to them have always enjoyed amazing support from the community. This year was no exception. We had over 100 volunteers who helped sort and price over 25,000 books and items for sale.

We had a wonderful turnout for the Friends’ Preview Night Friday and the public sale Saturday.

We are profoundly grateful to the members of the Cape Henlopen High School Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps students and the adult leadership of that organization who made the movement of thousands of books possible at the start and end of the book sale.

On behalf of the board of the Friends of the Lewes Public Library, I would like to express our sincere appreciation for the generous support of the following businesses: Baker’s Exxon, Books in a Trice, Mr. P’s Pizza, and Grand Rental Station.

A special thank you goes to Surf Bagel who supported our Biblio Bistro with delicious bagels.

Our sincere appreciation goes to all the volunteers who provided family favorite baked goods for us to sell.

We would also like to thank Atlantic Liquors of Rehoboth, R&L Liquors of Lewes, Cape Wine & Spirits of Lewes, Lewes Wine and Spirits of Lewes, Milton Liquor of Milton, Backbay Liquors of Millsboro, and Roadsters Wine and Spirits of Lewes for their help in gathering the hundreds of cardboard flats used to display the books at the book sale.

We greatly appreciate your support of the Friends of the Lewes Public Library.

As an independent library within the Delaware Division of Libraries, the Lewes Public Library must raise 50 percent of its annual operating budget every year. The Friends of the Lewes Public Library provides over 10 percent of those funds to pay for 100 percent of the books added to the library’s collection, as well as many of the free programs offered.

If you missed our book sale, you still have the opportunity to purchase high-quality used books at reasonable prices in the Just Between Friends Shop in the entrance of the library.

In addition, the shop also offers new books for children and adults; products related to literacy, with emphasis on unique local items; artworks on consignment showcasing local artists; Friends merchandise, including the Friends cookbook, T-shirt, and tote bag; unique USA-made cotton throw depicting the history of the library.

Our 2018 fall book sale will take place Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018. In advance of that sale, the Friends of the Lewes Public Library are accepting book donations until they reach their storage capacity.

A maximum of two boxes of books per donor will be accepted. The Friends of the Lewes Public Library accepts gently used books, DVDs and CDs to benefit the library.

Please see our acceptance guidelines on the library’s webpage at: www.lewes.lib.de.us/friends/shop.
