FSCAA holds SYEP Awards Luncheon

August 27, 2017

Eighty-eight Sussex County and Kent County youth ages 14-18 were afforded the opportunity to gain meaningful summer job training/work experience through First State Community Action Agency's Summer Youth Employment Program funded by the Delaware Department of Labor and the Community Services Block Grants.

The youth gained hands-on job training skills from 20 partnering organizations - schools, libraries, nonprofit agencies, etc. - which served as worksites.

The participants are employed for approximately seven weeks (or 210 hours) at these partner sites, each earning $8.25 per hour. The young workers participated in skill-building workshops and development training in resumé writing, interview skills, online banking and money management, leadership, and college and career planning.

The Aug. 9 awards luncheon recognized these young people for their participation and success in the program.
