The weather was dark and gloomy, but the spirits of 250 runners were bright and sunny at the second annual Ashley Furio Memorial 5K at the Crooked Hammock outside Lewes.

The event benefited the Ashley Nicole Furio Endowment Fund for the Children’s Beach House Margaret H. Rollins Child Development Center, which provides preschool and support services to 3- and 4-year-olds from Sussex County.

The race winner was Patrick Boettcher, 36, of Newark in 17:17. He was followed to the finish line by Martin Rodriguez, 36, of Selbyville in 18:51; Chris Sherman, 33, of Lewes in 19:45; and female winner Jenna Riley, 28, of Wilmington in 19:53.

Finishers four though seven were women. Following Riley were Erin Anderson, 35, of Hollis, N.H., in 21:34; Kelly Tingle, 29, of Delmar, Md., in 21:37; and Susan Dunn, 40, of Laurel, in 21:47.

Rounding out the top 10 were Rick Poppleton, 64, of Rehoboth Beach in 22:01; Joey Triberi Jr., 31, of Bear in 22:22; and Corey Phillips, 25, in 22:25.
