G opens in Rehoboth

June 22, 2017

Many people come to the beach to escape, but a new restaurant in Rehoboth Beach aims to offer an escape from the ordinary beach-dining experience.

G Cask and Kitchen opened last month on Rehoboth Avenue. General Manager of Operations Karly Gamaitoni said G offers an upscale look with a contemporary American menu with Mediterranean flavors. She said the space is not too beachy and gives customers something they cannot get anywhere else.

“I think our menu can offer something different,” Gamaitoni said.

Among the popular menu items so far, Gamaitoni said, were the baby octopus appetizer, the watermelon and feta salad, braised short ribs and scallops, all prepared by executive chef Dennis Kuc.

Part of the effort to provide a new dining experience was a major renovation of the interior. The building formerly housed Cloud 9 and Lula Brazil and for anyone who visited those two places, the new space is transformed. The inside has a new color scheme, new lighting, new tables and chairs and couches near the waiting area. The bar has been renovated; the mirrors behind the bar have been replaced with backsplash and the skylight above the bar has been emphasized. G still has an outdoor patio, which has been repaved and a canopy provides shade.

“Trying to create something sleek and modern but still gave the feel for a restaurant,” Gamaitoni said. “The bar is probably my favorite part.”

Gamaitoni said the name G was meaningful to owners BCG Management Group and that cask and kitchen was another way of saying bar and restaurant. While food is G’s main focus, Gamaitoni said the nightlife scene will not be neglected; the dance floor remains and tables can be moved to make way for dancing. G is offering 20 styles of red and white wines, along with four champagnes and a cocktail menu.

Currently, G is open for dinner, but Gamaitoni said the restaurant is planning to be open for lunch in July.

“The biggest challenge is just making a name for yourself. Rehoboth has transformed. I think it continues to grow into a very food-focused community. It’s more than just the food here,” she said.

G Cask and Kitchen is open daily from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.; the restaurant is open until 1 a.m. with a DJ Thursday through Sunday; brunch is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Reservations are not needed but are accepted.
