Gallo Gives Foundation awards community donations
As part of its ongoing effort to support the community, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Gallo Realty has formed the Gallo Gives Foundation. 2016 second-quarter foundation earnings of $9,000 were awarded to the West Rehoboth Community Land Trust, Sussex Strong, the Sussex County Association of Realtors Community Service Foundation and Contractors For A Cause, while a portion of earnings has been set aside for a college-bound senior scholarship that will be available in spring 2017. A total of $2,500 was given to each organization, and $1,500 was set aside for the scholarship.
The West Rehoboth Community Land Trust was created in 2004 to assist residents of the West Rehoboth neighborhood to maintain their ability to reside in an area of rapid expansion and rising real property values. Their mission is to create permanent affordable housing, to preserve the West Rehoboth community, to work with the community to revitalize this historic neighborhood and to foster the principles of fair housing and a diverse community. The purpose of Sussex Strong, the Sussex County Association of Realtors Community Service Foundation, is to receive, maintain and disburse funds for the charitable purposes, objectives and activities of SCAOR. The foundation endeavors to help grow and strengthen the local community. This particular donation is a sponsorship of the Harvest Moon Gala, which takes place in the autumn. This event raises funds to purchase winter coats, clothing, shoes and Christmas gifts for over 300 Sussex County children each year. For more information, go to www.sussexstrong.org.
Based in Ocean View, Contractors For A Cause supports the local community in several ways. Helping Hands offers disadvantaged community members free services and professional advice in the field of home construction, maintenance and repair. The Legacy Scholarship provides $1,500 scholarships each year to two local high school senior graduates. Reach Out enables CFAC to support many local worthy causes, like Willies Neighborhood, The Justin W. Jennings Foundation,and Hogan's Heroes. For more information, go to www.contractorsforacause.org.
The Gallo Gives Foundation is funded primarily through the company's agents, management and staff. Agents are encouraged to donate a percentage of their commissions earned, and the firm then matches 100 percent of all agent/staff contributions. In addition, Gallo Realty will produce certain events that will benefit the foundation. Public donations will be accepted as well. Each Gallo Realty office in Lewes, Rehoboth Beach and Bethany Beach is represented by individuals who serve on the foundation's giving committee. The committee researches community charities in need and recommends funding. The foundation is managed by the Greater Lewes Foundation.
