October 10, 2017

George Buford McAlpin, 79, of Ocean View, formerly of Baltimore, Md., passed away Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes.

George was born in Greenbrier, W.Va., Jan. 17, 1938, son of the late Percy Buford McAlpin and Cassie Mae (Anderson) McAlpin.

He worked in metal fabrication for Western Electric and Vulcan Hart before his retirement and move to Ocean View. After moving to the beach, George worked as a security guard for Sea Colony in Bethany Beach for nine years before his health started to fail.

After his morning coffee he would go to the boardwalk in Bethany Beach and gather with a group of friends to solve the world's problems and then walk the boardwalk.

His hobby was all about cars. He would constantly be on the road stopping at every car dealer just to look over the different cars on the lot, and he also loved going to the different car shows in the area. He enjoyed going to the Nanticoke Indian Powwow, car races at Georgetown and Delmar Speedways and also watching NASCAR races. George also loved going every year to the Fiddlers Convention and would talk about it before, during and after. He invited his sons-in-law every year. He was a member of the Sonrise Church in Berlin, Md., and was very active with the Sharing the Harvest Ministry at the church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 32 years, Barbara Jean McAlpin in 2001, and a sister, Mary McAlpin. George is survived by three daughters, Cynthia Street and her husband Robert Street of Baltimore, Md., Laura Hufford and her husband, C. Rodney Hufford Jr. of Ocean View and Michele Hineline and her husband, Bruce Hineline of Ocean View; and two brothers, Michael McAlpin and his wife Shirley McAlpin of Vero Beach, Fla., and Ray McAlpin and his wife Carolyn McAlpin of Baltimore, Md. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
